Workshop Laboratory Integration and LIMS connectivity
Project duration: 3 months
Brief description
As producer of medical devices being used in analyical and diagnostic laboratories, the customer had not many connections to the IT landscape of laboratories. PTA provides an overview of Lab IT system environments and communication protocols and develops business strategies that allow the customer to position himself within these IT environments in a workshop.
Supplement
As a manufacturer being focused on sample preparation and analysis devices for diagnostic and analytical laboratories, the customer had few interactions with the Lab IT systems around these devices. PTA provides detailed information on Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) market, features and workflows as well as detailed information on modern interface standards like HL7, DICOM etc. Based on this information, potential positioning of the customer products and basic steps for potential new business models in context of digital transformation of laboratories were discussed in a workshop.
Subject description
LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) are the IT backbone of a laboratory. They manage the orders that the laboratory processes and control the workflow from sample preparation via distribution of the samples to the analystical instruments and result transfer to higher-level IT systems. In this respect, the LIMS market is particularly interesting for manufacturers of components that are controlled by LIMS in this workflow. Discussing their products in the IT context of the Laboratory allows them to develop new business models which would them address higher-level requirements of their customers. Based on the information provided about LIMS and laboratory integration, a fruitful discussion about the product strategy is possible.
