On a worldwide distributed modular medical device with data management software, the operating system and the database are to be updated to the latest version. The PTA develops a concept and carries out test migrations for data and for updating the data management software.
Supplement
The customer is currently using his product on different hardware environments. The migration of OS, DB and the application itself should be largely automated. The downtime of the application must not exceed 2 hours in order to minimize the impact on routine operation in the laboratory. An OS image was specified by the customer for the migration of the OS. The operating system was updated from Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 10, the Oracle database from version 11 to 12g.
Subject description
For a modular, complex medical device optimized for high sample throughput, the operating system, data management software, and database software must be updated. As these devices are usually in operation 24 hours a day and their throughput rate is an important factor for the profitability of the laboratories in which they are used, the downtime must be as low as possible. The database contents must be migrated correctly and completely. Since the devices have been delivered for several years and have a modular structure, several hardware environments must also be taken into account. Finally, the Migration must be tested on all possible hardware environments to ensure that the real migration is as secure as possible and takes place within the specified downtimes.
