The CDCs -Cross Docking Centers fulfill the task of bundling goods deliveries from suppliers for several stores. The planning of logistics processes (storage locations, pallets, etc.) and the commercial billing of services are currently still based on Access applications and Excel tables. With the support of PTA, the applications will be transferred to SAP BW on HANA. The automation of data supply for reporting implemented by PTA will save considerable recurring effort in manual reporting.
Supplement
Specifications such as parameters for allocation are enabled via BW planning functions (integrated planning). In reporting (SAP BW via AfO), order data (from SAP Retail) and details of logistics processing (pallets, repackaging, hub, etc.) (from SAP EWM) are combined and reported together with the planning data. On the one hand, the PTA is responsible for coordinating the requirements and the architecture of the application. On the other hand, parts of the implementation, the test as well as the training of the departments fall into the PTA's area of responsibility.
Subject description
The specialist department is relieved of time-consuming and outdated manual processes. In commercial terms, CDC reporting is about optimizing logistics costs overall. On the one hand, the use of the CDCs as 'intermediate storage' enables better conditions with suppliers (larger quantities, easier achievement of minimum order quantities and values) as well as better just-in-time delivery to the stores. On the other hand, the storage locations naturally generate costs. This has to be brought into an optimal relationship by controlling the utilization and comparing the fixed and variable cost shares.
