Re-Design and Implementation of Cost Calculation Template
Brief description
An MS Excel/ VBA application that has existed for many years for cost calculation of complex assemblies in automotive engineering is adapted to the changed requirements of the cost structure. When analyzing the requirements and the program code, it is found that the existing application can no longer be adapted with an economically justifiable effort. The application is therefore redesigned with the aim of being able to implement structural changes more efficiently in the future and to make the entire system more maintainable. The core element of the new design are variable output matrices based on 'Named Areas' in MS EXCEL. The application will be completely redesigned according to this concept.
Supplement
An automotive supplier produces complex, highly integrated assemblies with a high investment volume. The calculation of the business parameters over time is correspondingly complex. A special calculation tool (standard software) is used for the actual calculation, which is, however, inadequate in terms of data output or the presentation of results. Therefore, the calculation data from this tool is exported if necessary and prepared in Excel as output matrices and diagrams. As a result, the management receives a compact and clear presentation of the calculation results. Furthermore, the processed data is used as the basis for a data warehouse import and the exported fields are mapped accordingly to the target structures of the DWH.
Subject description
The cost calculation includes several calculation scenarios. Corresponding costs are recorded for each scenario and presented at the level of cost types and their aggregation. The presentation takes place on a yearly basis over the entire life cycle of the assemblies, i.e. starting with the start of development of the assembly through the production of the parts to the planned end of production. In the output matrices and diagrams, the management can evaluate the course of the cost development and initiate appropriate corrective measures at the beginning of the module development.
