Processdefinition for migration of laboratory information systems
Project duration: 2 months
Brief description
Due to a strategic decision the PTA customer aims to migrate the existing 3000 installed legacy products into the new laboratory information system. The current migration duration is above 12 weeks and hardly predictable. The goal of this project is the prototyping and creation of a tool-supported migration process, that allows to reduce migration times by at least 30% and introduce a generic predictability. Therefore PTA is requested to collect and consolidate the available information, create an architectural concept and deliver a prototyped solution for critical migration process steps.
Supplement
The migration process is currently not documented or aligned. The success and duration of the migration process depends on the executing service representative. On the other hand, technological and systemic constraints are only given by the global organisation, in a way that partly conflicts with the operational requirements. Main task of PTA beside the migration process step defintion, is the creation of templates, checklists or structures to document the information needed for a migration in a way that allows proper reuse as well as the interoperability with existing systems. The proper method to fullfill the project requests are guided workshops for information collection and coaching of the customer in order to accept the solution.
Subject description
The configurations of the laboratory information system which need to be migrated contain several hundreds up to thousands of settings. All these information are potential subject to be documented and checked. Currently the information are collected in an unstructured way, more likely they are discovered by malfunctions of the migrated system just before 'go-live'. This leads to shifting timelines, time-consuming reverification activities as well as to changing customer requirements. As the laboratory information systems are used in diagnostic environment, the documentation with respect to computer system validation (CSV) is mandatory. Therfore the PTA customer aims to improve its own output qualification (OQ) as well as the preparation for the performance qualification (PQ) of the final user.
