Preliminary study for specifications (LIMS market analysis)
Project duration: 5 days
Brief description
A chemical-physical laboratory of a globally operating testing institute is supported by the preparation of a LIMS – market study in the preparation of a specification for the conversion of the company-wide software landscape. For this purpose, information from LIMS providers is obtained on the basis of a self-developed criteria and evaluation model and compared and evaluated according to a five-tier rating scale.
Supplement
The criteria catalogue is based on the PTA standard tool selection and is compiled according to six categories: manufacturer-specific criteria; product-specific criteria; system technical criteria; functional criteria; criteria for user-friendliness and cost/benefit ratio. The catalogue is created and evaluated in Office 2010, using current standard evaluation functionalities such as data bars and conditional formatting templates, and for portability and security reasons using formulas only. The catalogue of criteria is used to contact LIMS system manufacturers and collect and analyse supplier information. The functional evaluation of the manufacturer's data is carried out according to a five-tier rating scale ("fully applicable","does not apply at all") with weighted criteria ("KO criterion","important","relevant","unimportant","not to be evaluated") and enables a comparison analysis with flexibly adjustable prioritisation.
Subject description
In the testing laboratory, entire products or samples of everyday objects of daily use such as clothing, shoes or toys are physically and chemically examined according to the customer's requirements and legal requirements, as well as being tested in accordance with legal regulations. To support these safety and quality checks, as well as the entire certification process, a new LIMS is to be introduced as part of the company-wide software change. Based on the current infrastructure and software landscape as well as explicit requirements, a catalogue of criteria with general (usual market) and (customer) specific criteria is compiled. The project is based on a list of available LIMS systems and manufacturers, which has been checked and compiled for relevance and experience in the industry.
