Middleware extension to support a molecular diagnostics analyzer.
Project duration: 8 months
Brief description
Distributed worldwide the customer's middleware interfaces laboratory or hospital information systems and medical instruments. Within the project the software is extended to support molecular diagnostic analyzers using PCR technology (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to scan body fluids for viral contaminations. The software solution permits remote controlling and monitoring the analyzers both in stand-alone and high throughput operation running several devices in parallel.
Supplement
Planning of system architecture as well as data base design and modeling of system behaviour is done in Enterprise Architect, whereas requirements are defined and managed using HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). While data base modeling, data provision and workflow logic are carried out via PL/SQL Developer, graphical user interfaces are generated using Visual Studio, Silverlight, C# and Delphi. Silverlight is also employed for web interface programming whereas building the components for data import and export is done via Schema. Host and instrument communication occurs via HL7 and ASTM. Source code components are managed in Team Foundation server, whereas automated testing is done via Visual Studio and C#. HP ALM is used to create and manage test cases as well as to provide general quality control and traceability of development artifacts. For project documentation, visualization and communication Word, Excel and Powerpoint are employed.
Subject description
The software solution extends the middleware's scope of operation introducing the new test category of molecular diagnostics. That way the software's application spectrum increases while on the other hand hospitals and laboratories already using the customer's middleware can extend their palette of diagnostic methods by automated virus detection without having to switch to another software.
