The SAP NetWeaver platform is the basis for designing and developing an intranet application for the material and customer master as an upstream system to SAP R/3. The maintained master data is released according to a configurable workflow (depending on the country, user role and the type of master data). The application is developed in the context of SAP EMEA Best Practices.
Supplement
The application does not store any of the master data itself. The data is read directly from SAP, changed and resent. To minimize the checking tasks, the SAP DDIC data is used at the field level, and check lists and maximum input lengths (for example) are controlled on this basis. As this is an EMEA application, the label texts are read from SAP and shown (automatic translation) depending on the specific country. In this way, it is possible to maintain all the relevant metadata centrally in SAP R/3. Further customizing settings can be made at the field level within the application. This primarily affects the role-dependent display or release of fields, as well as some role-dependent check lists. Separate roles can be assigned for each country. It is also possible to save checking and derivation rules for fields separately for each country.
