Identification of perfomance-intense rules in a middleware rule engine,
Project duration: 3 months
Brief description
Interfacing between laboratory information systems and medical instrument, a middleware enables laboratory personnel to control complex work processes using a customizable rule engine to define their own rules. To increase the rule engine's performance within a hemotological working environment, PTA identifies those rule engine rules displaying maximum performance intensity. Such rules are prime candidates for performance optimization.
Supplement
The hematology rules are characterized in terms of complexity, rule calls and average run times. This is done using the rule definitions themselves as well as live recordings protocolling the middleware's application in real hospitals and laboratory simulations. Relevant information is extracted using PL/SQL Developer and subsequently analzyed and visualized via Microsoft Excel. The project results and findings are documented in text and presentation form.
Subject description
Identfying the performance bottlenecks within the rule engine's body of rules now permits targeted measures of optimization.
