GUI-based test automation of a laboratory information system
Project duration: 8 months
Brief description
Conception and development of testing scripts for GUI-based test automation of a laboratory information system (LIS) including a preceding feasibility study and evaluation of suitable tools.
Supplement
Feasibility study: During the first phase a technical evaluation of the two testing tools HP Quicktest Professional and SmartBear TestComplete is performed. Subsequently the quality of object recognition and control in TestComplete is scrutinized and validated by implementing representative test cases. Implementation: During the second phase the existing regression tests that were manually executed until now are transformed into automized tests which are used to verify essential workflows within the application as well as its correct installation.
Subject description
Goal of the present GUI-based test automation is to elevate the software quality by automated testing of new (nightly) builds. This will allow for continuous testing of the current status of development to measure product quality by defined metrics. Furthermore possible side effects of applied changes can be made obvious as it would be impossible by manually executing these tests. Regression testing of these builds will be performed on a reference system that corresponds with a defined configuration specification.
