Evaluation of the suitability of Exasol as an enterprise data warehouse
Project duration: 2 months
Brief description
In the course of modernizing the BI landscape and optimizing performance in data analysis, Exasol is being tested for suitability as an Enterprise Cloud Data Warehouse (DWH). In addition to efficient data management, the evaluation will focus on analyzing query performance at the detailed data level with several billion data records. Based on the data provided by the BI department and a previously defined, representative data model, the PTA performs the import and performance analysis.
Supplement
The evaluation is based on an Exasol cluster created in the Amazon Web Services Cloud (AWS Cloud). Based on the data provided by the customer's BI department, the PTA evaluates how Exasol can control and optimize data distribution. Data management is done via JDBC from a source system or via direct upload from a file. The PTA analyzes and tests the query performance of the end customer reporting based on the data model and the previously imported data both with plain SQL and tool-based with the Power-BI and Tableau reporting front-ends. The PTA presents the results in comparison to the customer's current DWH solution (Teradata).
Subject description
Subject of the evaluation is the examination of a possible Enterprise Cloud DWH solution with Exasol as an alternative to the existing Housing DWH solution with Teradata. In addition to the advantages of a cloud solution, such as independence from hardware, flexible licensing or billing according to use, as well as lower administrative effort, the technical advantages of the product will be examined. The need for high-performance reporting on data not aggregated in advance is formulated as a central requirement. Vertical and horizontal scaling as well as the internal optimization of Exasol's data access will be examined.
