Analysis, design and implementation of a web application for entering and maintaining all the relevant data for processes relating to insurance tendering. This also includes creating print orders for documents as part of customer communication, and the automatic migration of accepted proposals as contracts to the company's inventory management system.
Supplement
The application is to be used by various sites within Germany. A web application based on Java EE combined with Java Server Faces was therefore chosen as the architecture model. Sun's GlassFish is used as the application server. This is the first time these technologies are being used in this company. A significant part of the project therefore involves planning and introducing a suitable development and operating environment. One boundary condition for the project is the requirement to enable simple and quick enhancement of the range of insurance products offered by the application. A further consideration is the need for dynamic user interfaces whose content depends directly on the values entered into the screens. This implies implementing many dynamic screens whose structure can be preconfigured by means of tables and whose appearance is also controlled by a configurable rule value in real time.
Subject description
The first version of the application is restricted to processing proposals for insurance policies in the categories of property insurance, liability insurance and transport insurance, with a premium volume of about 1000 EUR per contract. Furthermore, the application is only made available within the intranet and only to the company's internal employees. These restrictions were applied to enable a solution for bulk business within a very limited timeframe. An enhancement of the application is planned immediately after completion of the project; this will expand it to cover the entire insurance product spectrum, as well as make the application available to insurance brokers over the Internet.
