The Category Management application is a BI solution for the analysis and optimization of the customer sales outlets based on the principle of merchandise categories and product line pyramids. The range of items is to be structured and planned accordingly using the application based on the location-specific requirements. One particular challenge during the design and implementation of the solution is the sheer range and depth of the product line, which includes many different brands including books and media, food services and travel accessories. This is reflected by the diversity and complexity of the ERP applications from which information must be copied and formatted for the Category Management Data Mart.
