Business process analysis for a LIMS implementation
Project duration: 8 months
Brief description
To introduce a laboratory information system for an organisation with several sites, departments and laboratories, a target concept and a specification sheet shall be developed to create the necessary prerequisites for this introduction corresponding to the accreditation standard. PTA creates process models according to BPMN in connection with an actual state analysis and identifies organisational and process-related points with potential for improvement. In addition, a target concept is developed as well as a plan for implementing the defined improvement measures.
Supplement
The customer runs a LIMS in order to be able to operate the corresponding digital inputs and outputs of orders and results. This mainly involves file transfer interfaces that cannot be changed due to the public infrastructure. Within the internal processes, technically possible functions are used, whereby the basic function of a LIMS – workflow control – is only carried out via paper documents and Excel lists. In addition to process modeling in BPMN, intensive reviews, site visits and concept meetings are part of the project activities as well as a detailed stakeholder management.
Subject description
The aim of the project is to prepare the successful implementation of a LIMS that can be operated within the laboratory's accreditation according to ISO 17025. The decisive prerequisites are clear definitions of the processes to be supported, otherwise complex and restrictive processes will significantly reduce the usability of the system.
