Middleware extension to support automatically controlled immunological test series.
Project duration: 2 years, 1 month
Brief description
The customer's middleware and a laboratory information system are extended to support a medical analyzer performing immunological test series to diagnose infectious diseases. Using pre-defined criteria the analyzer decides for each sample independently which measurements or calculations of a given test series are carried out. Moreover, for each element of a test series there are multiple options regarding measuring cells or reagent sources used. To account for this options multiplicity in terms of execution pathways and reagent material, the software solution introduces new test categories reflecting the test series internal architecture and hierarchy. In addition to that, a novel means of quality control is implemented, determining from the entire pool of all control results possible the exact combination of test results and materials matching the ones used in a single analysis run of a given patient sample.
Supplement
Planning of system architecture as well as data base design and modeling of system behaviour is done in Enterprise Architect, whereas requirements are defined and managed using HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). While data base modeling, data provision and workflow logic is carried out via PL/SQL Developer, graphical user interfaces are generated using Visual Studio, Silverlight, C# and Delphi. For web interface programming Java is employed as well as Schema to build the components for data import and export. Host and instrument communication occurs via HL7 and ASTM. Source code components are managed in Team Foundation server, whereas automated testing is done via Visual Studio and C#. HP ALM is employed to create and manage test cases as well as to provide general quality control and traceability of development artifacts. For project documentation, visualization and communication Word, Excel and Powerpoint are used.
Subject description
The customer's middleware and laboratory information system are extended. The software solutions developed increase the possible applications of both program packages, providing full steering and quality control of a novel technique of doing immunological diagnostics. That way, we extend efficiency, functional palette and application potential of the customer's software packages used in hospitals and medical laboratories worldwide.
