Inclusion of data flows as part of data governance
Project duration: 11 months
Brief description
The objective is to create a uniform logical data model throughout the company. Moreover, data flows should be transparent and able to be assigned to processes. As the first step, all available IT applications must be inspected, their fields recorded, documented and their link to the process established. Data flows are modelled based on this. The logical data model is created with the structural assignment of the fields to entities. PTA provides support in all areas of the project.
Supplement
The fields are recorded in MS Excel as well as in an extensive MS Access database. After that, the validated fields are transferred to the ERwin UML tool where the logical data model is also constructed ultimately. PTA's tasks relate to coordination and undertaking the appointments with the specialist departments, recording the data in the Access DB as well as subsequent validation with the people responsible for the field.
Subject description
The main goal is to create a data model that is valid throughout the company and ensures transparency and standardization. This means a specification regarding use of your data can be made in future IT projects. This offers the advantage of a uniform procedure in handling data, reduction of mappings and interfaces, clear semantics of the fields, more efficient projects because the amount of coordination work is significantly reduced.
